Dear Parents / Guardians
I would like to thank all families for their ongoing support this year by working in partnership with the Spearwood PS team of staff in our continued focus on improvement and high expectations. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together over the last three terms, laying a strong foundation for success reflected in our school vision, ‘a key to the future’.
Over the holidays, I was the successful applicant of a Principal position close to home. Whilst I am sad that I will not be able to finish the year with the students, families and staff; I wish each of you the very best for the future. It gives me great pleasure to inform you that Mrs Trish Ratto, a very experienced administrator, will be Principal for Term 4 and is committed to continuing the amazing work we have been focused on this year.
Mrs Rebecca Instance
Spearwood PS Principal
Terms 1 – 3, 2018
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you for the very warm welcome to Spearwood PS. I have already met with the students at today’s early morning assembly and also in their classrooms and I look forward to meeting with the rest of the school community over the next few weeks.
Mrs Instance has provided a very comprehensive handover and I have had the opportunity to meet with the administration team and many staff members over the holidays to ensure a seamless transition. Much has been achieved this year at SPS and there are many celebrations to date.
The School Development Day on Friday 21 September was an opportunity for staff to engage in further professional learning in the Highway Heroes social emotional learning program and also in preparing for the National Quality Standards audit – including evaluating the play-based options available. Staff also had the opportunity to briefly analyse the 2018 NAPLAN results which will assist in setting priorities for 2019.
Term 4 promises to be a very busy term with a multitude of school events including:
- Interschool Athletics Carnival on 16 and 18 October
- Swimming lessons (K – Year 4) in Weeks 5 and 6
- Lapathon on 31 October (P – Year 6)
Term 4 is also the term to assess the teaching and learning for 2018, and so there are several assessments planned over the course of the term. These assessments help teachers in writing their student reports for Semester 2 and therefore it is important for students to take the opportunity to fully demonstrate their learning and capabilities.
I am looking forward to my time at Spearwood PS and becoming involved in all that you do at your wonderful school.
Mrs Trish Ratto
Spearwood PS Principal
