A visit from Aska- illustrator and scientist

On Thursday the 13th of August, Spearwood Primary hosted a visit from the children’s illustrator, Aska. As well as looking at how we can use pictures to tell stories, we explored the importance of imagination. They led our students through a discussion about how imagination lets us take something small and turn them in to amazing ideas. We explored the history of flight- from a shirt blowing off a chimney from the hot air through to the development of different aircraft (and a whole lot mistakes along the way). Aska showed us a number of different experiments involving flight, including a tea bag hot air balloon, an air pump PET bottle and an Alka-Seltzer in a film canister. This resulted in a very entertaining incursion, perfectly timed for both Book Week and Science Week!
