On Wednesday the 18th of May, Spearwood Primary School participated in National Simultaneous Storytime, run each year by the Australian Library and Information Society (ALIA). Joining more than 2 million kids around Australia (and beyond!), everybody read Family Tree by Josh Pike. This beautifully illustrated picture book is written from the point of view of a tree being planted in someone’s back yard as the house is being built, witnessing the generations of the family who lived there playing in its branches. A number of students and staff had sent in a family photo, which was pinned up in the library as part of our Spearwood family. Through the day, the different classes did a number of activities related to Family Tree, exploring the themes of the story. Copies of the book will now remain in EC1, EC2 and Room 6 for the remainder of the year, with further copies in the library for borrowing any time the children wish.
