Hiroshima Day

Hiroshima Day

Hiroshima Day is 6th August when the first Atomic Bomb was dropped.  It is remembered worldwide as people work towards lasting peace and never using nuclear weapons again.  Every year the City of Cockburn, who has close sister city relationship with Japan, holds a ceremony in remembrance.  This year it was held on Friday 5th August.  Our two captains, Ezeckiel and Hesha, planted a tree and then attended a special morning tea to do cultural activities and learnt to make the origami paper crane.  The City of Cockburn has commemorated this day for 37 years planting trees. This year we planted at Manning Park in an area designed to gradually build a corridor for Native animals.  Our School Captains planted a spotted gum.  The City of Cockburn worker who helped us was Peter and he told us all about the tree and assisted with the planting.
