The school held a Reconciliation Assembly on Thursday 30 May, led by our Student Leaders. Our special guests, Uncle Kenny Hayward played the didgeridoo and Narrelle Ogilvie performed the smoking ceremony. It was lovely to see parents and other family members attend.
Throughout the week students learnt and explored the importance of this National event and that everyone can make a positive difference. Classroom teachers provided the educational curriculum whereby students were enriched with knowledge and understanding.
Mrs Dowding has worked with the whole school from K – 6 to complete the Serpent project which will be placed in the old undercover area next to the staffroom. The Rainbow Serpent – dreaming in Aboriginal society represents the great and powerful forces of nature and spirit. Connected to water, the Rainbow Serpent is the great life giver, and protector of water, which is his spiritual home.
The wood was bought and cut out by Mrs Dowding and every student had a go at working on the artwork. We used the colours of the seasons that are around the school as our inspiration and our amazing serpent started to take shape.
