Mother’s Day Stall

Mother’s Day Stall

The P & C have been busy planning and ensuring your children had the opportunity to buy Mother’s Day presents for a special Mother, Aunt, Grandma or friend. The stall was held on Thursday 9 May, and it was a great success.  There was great excitement as the students were amazed at how many choices, they had to purchase their gifts.  Thank you to the wonderful work the P&C performed setting up the stall.

WA Opera Company Incursion

WA Opera Company Incursion

What a beautiful incursion the school had on Monday 29 April.  The students were fortunate enough to have two lead Opera singers and keyboard player. The students and staff were amazed at their performance and were engaged at all times.  They especially loved the Italian Opera singing as they understood the words.

ANZAC Service

ANZAC Service

On Wednesday 24 April, we held the annual Anzac Service.  It was a respectful tribute to our fallen soldiers.  Our students honoured the tremendous sacrifices made by Australian servicemen and women who have participated in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations around the world, past and present. It was a time to reflect on the impact of war and how it has shaped and defined ours shared sense of identity.  Thank you to all who attended and especially our Year 6 student leaders for being our Master of Ceremonies.

Easter Hat Parade

Easter Hat Parade

What a lovely way to finish term 1 with an Easter Parade Assembly. It was wonderful to see our students design and create their Easter Hats/Bonnets and have the support of so many parents attend the assembly.  So much work went into the designs.  Thank you to Sian and Kaliyah, our school prefects for their judging experience as it wasn’t an easy task to choose two winners from Kindy to Year 6. Thank you to the families who attended for making it a lovely community event.

Congratulations to our winners:

Isaac & Amelia – Kindy

Dante & Harper – Pre Primary

Djaran & Billy – Room 6

Evelyn & Stella – Room 14

Tafaris & Willow – Room 16

Harmony Day and Family Picnic

Harmony Day and Family Picnic

Harmony Week celebrates all the ways in which Australia is a multicultural country, and how different cultures work together to create communities. Every year at Spearwood, students can dress in orange-coloured clothes, as this is the Harmony Day colour, or in their National Dress.  This year we celebrated Harmony Day, which included a Family Picnic, on Friday 21 March.

Mrs Adam had the pleasure on Friday 15 March, to escort four students to a Recognition ceremony.  Thank you to the City of Cockburn for inviting and recognising two of our student leaders at a ceremony held at the Function room. Congratulations to Sian and Kaliyah as they were recognised for their work in inspiring students, exhibiting empathy, supporting their peers and embracing diversity within the school.  The community is proud of your achievements.

Science

Science

This terms Science lessons are based on Earth and Space Science. For the Pre-Primary this meant looking at the weather and how it affects us. Years 1 and 2 learnt about Earth’s Treasures including water, air, rocks and minerals and plants.  Years 3 and 4  looked at how our Earth is changing slowly over time.   Our experiment looked at the movement of converging tectonic plates and how the movement creates mountains, valleys and caves. We did it in a few minutes, but in real lifetime it is happening very very slowly.

We also had the opportunity to explore a huge range of rocks, gems, sand, minerals, shells, coral – all Earth’s treasures.

The shell collection kept us busy trying to look at the many different shapes, sizes, colours and even some big enough to hear the sea!  There was also a collection of corals to look at.

We studied a box of test tubes that contained many different coloured sands, from black to snowy white, glass beads, dried clay and very black bitumen.

Sally’s Room

Sally’s Room

The Ground Committee Volunteers have been busy putting together the new outdoor classroom.  The grant money was provided by the Australian Government as part of the Schools Upgrade Fund Round 1.

Mrs Sally Piotrowski taught at Spearwood Primary School from 2006 to 2022.

She was an outstanding teacher and had the idea of an outdoor classroom for messy, fun, learning and which is also a place for play.

The staff and community loved her idea and begun to find ways to make it happen.  We have finally made her vision a reality.

While Sally is no longer with us, we will always remember and honour her with this outdoor classroom known as ‘Sally’s Room’.

Kindy Concert

Kindy Concert

On Wednesday 6 December, the Kindy students celebrated their wonderful year with a Christmas concert. It was a morning filled with singing and dancing.

The parents were also invited back into the classroom to join in some fun Christmas activities.

It was a beautiful morning watching the students perform and the parents celebrating the successful year their children had.
